Why they chose Concourse
Bucks County Community College needed to streamline the process of creating, collecting, sharing, and distributing syllabi across multiple programs and campuses for the division of online education.
The Backstory
Bucks County Community College (Bucks) is comprised of three campuses on over 200 acres of land just north of Philadelphia. With a community of over 10,000 current students, Bucks has been proudly educating residents of Bucks County, and beyond, since 1964. With a dynamic Virtual Campus and innovative hybrid courses that blend time in the classroom with time online, Bucks was on the hunt for technology that would make it easy to create and review syllabi as well as focus on ensuring greater syllabus accessibility to students prior to registration.
The Need
After meeting at Villanova Tech Expo, Georglyn Davidson, Online Learning and User Support Director at Bucks, knew Concourse was the technology that would help them centralize syllabus management and improve workflow- especially in dealing with transfer requests. After providing the academic deans at Bucks with an online demonstration and fielding multiple questions, it became very clear that Concourse would eliminate the four out of five steps in the syllabus management process, relieving Bucks of administrative and infrastructure costs. The consensus after the demo was to move forward with a Pilot and focus on getting syllabi online before the semester started.
The Solution
Georglyn worked with Intellidemia to ensure that the Concourse was deployed and populated with syllabi for a fall semester pilot. During the pilot, Bucks created and shared over 70 course syllabi with Concourse. The online learning department was very pleased with the result of the pilot and received a great user response during those critical first weeks of the semester. With budget restriction and an institute-wide freeze on spending for new technology, the online learning department has their fingers crossed that funds will be allocated for the institution-wide deployment of Concourse.
