What’s Your (Transfer) Credit Score?

As students transfer from institution to institution, the hope is that their credits will all transfer with them. But how often does it work out that way? Students and even advisors can sometimes struggle with this question. With well over a million students typically enrolling as transfer students most years, the need for easier answers is clear. That’s why Ithaka S+R is launching a public, nonprofit, national credit mobility website, building on technology they created in collaboration with the CUNY system. This site will be piloted by schools in South Carolina, Connecticut, and Washington, with more growth planned in the future. In the meantime, remember that clear and easily accessible syllabi are one of the best ways to help your transfer students get more credit at their next institution. We can help with that.

The Politics of Syllabi

Second perhaps only to AI, the debate on DEI’s place in higher education is heating up all around the country. In Virginia, the push and pull between the government and George Mason University over their Just Societies initiative is now focused on our favorite document. Syllabi for courses that fulfill the Just Societies requirement are being examined by the Virginia Department of education. Keith D. Renshaw, senior associate provost at George Mason, has expressed confidence that the documents will clear up misconceptions about the nature of the class. We at Concourse strongly approve this message - a good syllabus is the best way to make sure that everyone - faculty, students, administrators, and even the public - have a clear picture of what a course provides and requires.
