What’s the purpose of a syllabus? Contract, course map, checklist for success? Or do students need more than that to succeed? In 2021, 44% of courses nationwide were taught by adjunct faculty. The nature of adjunct employment can leave faculty in a position of having only a few days to prepare for a course - or, in the worst case, not knowing they are expected to teach a course at all, like the instructor in a recent article from the Chronicle of Higher Ed.
