The Syllabus Sentinel by Concourse Syllabus logo

The September 2025 Edition

Thomas Edison said, “Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the only thing he can’t afford to lose.” One has to wonder if that sentiment came from his mother, who was an educator. As everyone in higher education looks to do more with less, any strategy or tool that speeds up common tasks is going to be a welcome innovation. This month’s Syllabus Sentinel shines a light on ways that better syllabus management saves time and energy - and who doesn’t want more of both?

In this edition:
  • Saving time on syllabus creation
  • Making a difference at Mount Carmel

Saving you time on syllabus creation

Creating a syllabus that is accurate, current, up-to-date, covers all the necessary information, and still conveys something about your teaching style, personality, and connection to your subject matter can feel like a tall order these days. We’ve designed Concourse with the end in mind and packed it full of features that make every aspect of syllabus creation more efficient and get you better results at the same time.
    • Tiered templates let you add information at the institution, division, department, and/or course level so faculty don’t have to hunt for the latest policy or course description.
    • Automated feeds let you pull in course information and syllabus content from existing systems like your SIS, catalog, or curriculum tools without manual entry.
    • The copy tool lets you pull content into your syllabi from last semester or other course sections and make updates to large groups of syllabi in minutes, not hours.
    • Cloud hosting and LTI integration let you create the syllabus once and instantly have it in the LMS for students, in the archive for your registrar, and on your website for everyone else.

Whatever your syllabus slowdowns may be, we’ve got the tools to speed things up.

Making a difference at Mount Carmel

You don’t have to take our word for it when it comes to the ways Concourse can accelerate your syllabus process. Our friends at the Mount Carmel College of Nursing recently highlighted the impact Concourse has had there, creating massive time savings and improving accuracy and consistency. If we can do that with notoriously complex syllabi like those for allied health courses, imagine what we can do for yours.

    What we're reading

How Are Instructors Talking About AI in Their Syllabi?
AI is unavoidable everywhere at this point, but nowhere is it more prominent than in higher education. Which means, as Sarah Huddleston points out in The Chronicle of Higher Education, “AI is also in the syllabus.” She explores the wide variety of approaches and provides examples of specific language currently in use at institutions and by faculty around the country.

Sidenote: Whether AI and other policies are provided by the institution, left up to the faculty, or somewhere in between, Concourse makes updating them for one course or thousands of courses fast and easy, and helps you keep track of those changes automatically.
